Assistant Controller

Position Summary:
Assistant Controller manages accounting, treasury, and financial reporting functions for the business.  Oversees the completion of ledger account reconciliations and financial statement compilation.  The Assistant Controller will manage a department of accounting professionals in roles including, but not limited to:  Staff Accountant, AP, & AR associates.  The Assistant Controller will also work closely with the VP Finance on various FP&A activities.
Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Monthly financial closing & reporting of P&L detail, balance sheet, cash flow, and bank reconciliation
  • Daily cash management activities
  • Software capitalization
  • Oversee & reconcile AR, balance sheet accounts, sales revenue, cash flow, accruals, refunds as well as bank & payment cards
  • Oversee fixed assets, inventory, rebate programs and freight cost analysis
  • Proactively works with fellow management team members on the development and execution of projects that will improve the bottom line (Rebate programs, service contracts, freight optimization, waste elimination, etc.)
  • Manages the year-end audit process
  • Maintain/Create standard work instructions for all key processes
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned
Required Experience / Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting / Finance
  • 5+ years relevant experience as an assistant controller in a multi-channel marketing/manufacturing environment, e-commerce experience preferred
  • Strong experience with deferred revenue and deferred cost of sales
  • Experience with the INFOR Visual Manufacturing ERP platform (Accounting module)
  • Experience working with outside auditors and managing a year-end audit process
  • Accounting/Finance experience in a company with private equity ownership a major plus
  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP a plus
  • Experience managing a team of accounting professionals
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong skills with Microsoft Excel
  • Self-motivated, hands-on, detail oriented with the ability to take the initiative

  • Constantly operate a computer and other office productivity machinery such as a calculator, copy machine and computer printer
  • This position requires repetitive use of hands/fingers to operate keyboard and mouse in front of a computer monitor
  • The person in this position must frequently communicate via phone, IM, email and in person with other staff members providing information accurately and professionally in these situations
  • The employee is expected to come to work unimpaired

  • Bachelor's Degree
